    Lightbulb Tailoring

    Hi everyone,

I'd like to get into tailoring, so I can make my own cloth gear as a mage, and would like some tips.

It seems like there are a few intertwining skills in the game that you need to work on in order to get tailoring up and running.

First of all, you need to raise Gardening to level 35 to grow cotton. I was wondering, how do I get gardening up to level 35? Well, I was storing away strange dust from grinding skeletons, and had about 300 of them. I made 300 worth of fertiliser from it and got my gardening to level 22. You may think it was probably a stupid idea to waste all the precious fertiliser, and you probably are correct. Now, I need to get from level 22 to level 35, and I probably need more fertiliser to do that? I was wondering what's the quickest way to do this leveling to get cotton at 35? Remember Therese in Serbule Keep is the gardener, and she loves necklaces, so I've been farming stomachs and getting necklaces at the same time, and handing them in. Necklaces are common from the feral bulls north of Etibule Keep. Once, I get enough favour with her, I will probably try growing some higher level vegetables, as they give a lot more experience.

Secondly, Textile Creations is taught by George Madler in Etibule Keep. He accepts Council Certificates and Unused Cloth. I am not sure what Council Certificate are and I've never come across unused cloth yet, so these must be a higher level drop. You need close friends favour with this guy, to get any of his recipes to pursue processing the cotton from Gardening.

Finally, there is Thimble Pete in Hogan's Keep who likes Desserts, Spoons, Sexy Clothing and Tailoring recipes. Desserts probably is the fastest way to get him up in favour to get the recipes. Which means, you need a good bit of cooking to get the desserts yourself or buy them off the marketplace.

There seems to me, like there is a lot of running around, getting different favours, leveling different skills, in order to actually make cloth gear.

I am just wondering, is it really worth it for a new player starting out to get into tailoring/textile creation, because it seems like it's a lot of hassle just to even get started making basic gear.

If anyone has any tips, I'm open for feedback, on beginning the path into textile creation and tailoring.

    Thanks,

For Gardening: As you said higher lvl seeds give more xp and there is also the first time bonus. To lvl gardening fast grow 2 of all vegetables at the same time and also 3 flowers. For fertilizer best place to farm for it is skelleton for strange dirt and bones (also extract skulls). You can use alchemy to turn bones/skulls into bone meal and make fertilizer out of it.

For Textile Creation: You can buy council certificate from hulon in serb keep for 1k or from scrolls that lie around in some dungeons (don´t remember which dungeons have them as spawn). They are expensive but give 60 favor each. As for unused cloth it is things like canvas you can make with textile creation.

For timble peet: Best way is to make the dessert yourself and higher lvl dessert gives more favor. As for sexy cloth if the item is something like that it is written on the item at the bottom just like cloth or ugly cloth.

As for if it is worth it: That is for you to decide. I like making my own gear, so it was worth it for me but you can also ask other players to make gear for you. There are usually some willing to do it if you bring your own materials. You can also buy materials from other players.

Thanks. managed to raise my favour with Therese by handing in amulets and got the bone meal alchemy recipe. I also got my gardening to level 35 and started growing cotton. The cotton allows you to grow 5 at a time, and by playing an instrument sometimes you can get more than 3 back from it.

Thanks. I did this and got textile creation. I realise I can raise the textile creation guy's favour pretty easily by just buying the council certificates. However, they are expensive.

Thimble Peet is by far a problem trying to raise favour with him. I can only make the second lowest fruit cocktail at the moment. I've been buying cocktails and fruit off vendors, and foraging the ingredients to make the cocktails. It's a pain because the cocktails take ages to forage and it only gives a small amount of favour. I found two candied lemon on a vendor, and bought them off it, so I could give to Thimble Pete and it raised it by a good bit. I haven't found sexy clothing yet but tried a few elven fancy gear that drops in kur tower but didn't work.

I like the idea of being to make my own gear too, but tailoring is not an easy profession to take up. Newbies are gated progress wise by favour, which is very difficult to raise, especially for Thimble Pete. You also need to raise cooking first to make the desserts for Thimble Pete. Also, the large money requirement for getting into Textile Creation for getting favour with the certificates is also offputting for newbies.

I spent hours yesterday, farming amulets for Therese, farming money for the certificates for the Textile Creation guy, and foraging fruit and making bad fruit cocktails to raise favour with Thimble Pete.

At the end of all my work, I was only able to make shabby gear which was like level 5 and I'm level 50 on my fire mage.

I think it will be a long time and a lot of time spent into raising favour and making gear before I get to the point, where I can make gear for myself at my current level.

It's just such a shame, that the professions aren't accessible to newbies -- especially the lower end gear.

At the end of the day, there is little point going into tailoring, unless you have LOADS of time to spend grinding out the different favour items and grinding for money and also grinding out the cotton farming.

I would have thought a full days investment would be enough to start making at least level 20 gear.

Unfortunately, it's a gruelling process, where you need to raise cooking first.

On some level it's kind of enjoyable though. At the end of the day, when you do start making the higher level gear, you know you've made it.

You might want to review the different benefits between cloth and leather sets, especially for evasion and winter, number of pockets, regeneration rates, etc.
Also, in PG, skills used do not limit armour type. You can very effectively use cloth for melee fighters, or put fire mages in metal.

    Hi poulter,

I did a bit of a review of the differences between cloth, leather and metal gear. Since Serb Crypt and possibly Goblin Dungeon only drops leather and metal, I haven't had the chance to actually experience cloth gear first hand. All I know is, that it gives more power on refresh abilities than leather does. I'd like to try out cloth gear on a caster and get a feel for it.

It's a bit disappointing that there are no cloth drops in Serb Crypt. This means players who want a pure cloth build never get to experience the differences between the three different armour types.

I managed to get Close Friends with Thimble Pete, after making a lot of deserts and finding some high-level Candied Lemon on a vendor or two. I am not sure if I need to get higher than Close Friends with Thimble Pete, before he gives me more recipes. If I do, I'll have to spend another few days, gathering cooking supplies to make more Fruit Cocktails. Honestly, Thimble Pete is a pig. I've given him so many fruit cocktails at this stage LOL!

Today, I started tailoring. I started growing a lot of cotton during the day. My goal was to get textile creating up to level 22, so I could make the threads, which otherwise sell for 450 councils a piece. That is pretty expensive. I reached my goal and created a lot of threads. I also made a lot of fine threads to level up the rough cloth, level 10 gear. I created one of each to start with, including the enchanted gear.

I noticed on the enchanted gear, you can add two of the same gem to the enchanted creation, and it will make a more powerful single-skill item. I was wondering, if this would be useful for my ice/fire mage. Since I'm primarily going to be using ice spells, maybe having very powerful one-skill items may make me more powerful overall. I'm not sure.

Anyway, before I retired, I got my tailor to level 17 and my textile creator to level 22. I need to create a lot more threads and a lot more fine threads to get onto the next crude cloth item.

    Leveling up tailoring takes ages.

I've also nearly run out of strange dust and bone meal for growing the cotton.

I'll have to farm more of them too and more spider webs.

Do you know of anywhere I can farm the strange dust that isn't Serb Crypt? I feel kind of anxious killing the mobs there, because I'm level 50 fire mage now, and the lower level players need the kills there to level up. I'm also sick of going up and down the same corridors. I also embarrassingly enough went to the starter island spawn point, where the skeletons spawn every few seconds to see what that was like, but I felt really bad killing the mobs there, as players just joining need that spot.

I don't have much money either, so I have to grind the mobs myself.

My current money making strategies are surveying and stomach farming. I have a stall too that I bought by farming stomachs.

Maybe I can go into surveying full time, and create work orders to buy the strange dirt off of new players joining? I am using the surveying tool on the website, which allows you to plot out a route and you can tick off each one as you go.

I really want to get tailoring up to 50 as soon as possible and get my ice/fire mage to 50/50 too. Another problem I have is reagents for the ice mage. I bought all of them up from the stalls and I need loads more orc spell pouches, and I hate kur mountains, and find it difficult to navigate in the cold.

Anyway, everything in this game requires lots of money.

That's what I really love about this game. It takes ages to make progress with anything, but when you get there, it's well worth it. Just figuring out, how to get started with tailoring was very challenging.

Now, I just have to keep growing cotton and farming strange dust / bone meal.

If anyone has any tips or is doing the same thing I am doing, let me know how you are getting on.

I'm not sure exactly what you were seeing, but in my experience, this isn't how it works. Two of the same gem will give half mods for that gem's skill, and the other half of the mods will be general mods (the same set of mods that using a rubywall or ilmari gem yields -- a list is at http://wiki.projectgorgon.com/wiki/A...easure_Effects).

Do you know of anywhere I can farm the strange dust that isn't Serb Crypt?
Anywhere with skeletons or plant-type creatures, for example Myconian Cave (the mushroom type critters drop strange dirt), or Kur Tower.

Crafting and using the same gem type for each skill is generally not a good idea and often results in generic or random skill mods on the crafted item (if you intend to use the item). Suggest you use gems for the 2 skills you use.

Income: Consider skinning --> Tanning --> Sell to NPCs (5 of them). At full favour levels, you can earn 200k+ councils /week
Also, run Casino dailies for 70k+ /week.

Fertilizer: Learn how to use Rotten strawberry and Cheap meat for this as soon as you can

    Armour types:
Generally, metal has better armour regeneration, leather more health regeneration and cloth more power regeneration.
By using food, snacks and flowers + some spells, I rarely have power issues - even using Fire magic, so I find leather to offer more benefit (survivability).

I have also found that using Leather Winter set makes grinding in Kur and Gazluk much easier

Whilst in dungeons, apart from Nimble boots, nothing provides more survivability than Leather Evasion gear.
i.e. the only cloth armour I use is Nimble boots (& maybe gloves) with no metal at all.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the great tips! I realise I was mistaken about the same gems in the two slots. I was just making junk items, and had a couple of spare gems, and noticed I could use the same one twice.

I realise that from poulter's posts that maybe cloth armour and indeed tailoring is not such a good idea for a fire/ice mage, and that leather is far better.

I just bought the cheap meat recipe from Kelim in Ilimari desert. It'll be much easier to farm that then the dirt / bones. Thanks!

At the moment, I'm at a dilemma. I just started tailoring, and spent so much time getting all the favour and everything, and now I realise, that it was leather I should have been using all along.

I'll have to research leather working now!

Skinning seems to be a big money maker. I'll definitely look into that too.

Again, thanks for all the help and the great tips!

As a result, yes. I realized I was perplexed by the same gems in both slots. I was also surprised to discover that I could use the same pill twice.
