Welcome to Project: Gorgon!

Project: Gorgon is a 3D fantasy MMORPG (massively-multiplayer online role-playing game) that features an immersive experience that allows the player to forge their own path through exploration and discovery. We won't be guiding you through a world on rails, and as a result there are many hidden secrets awaiting discovery. Project: Gorgon also features an ambitious skill based leveling system that bucks the current trend of pre-determined classes, thus allowing the player to combine skills in order to create a truly unique playing experience.

The Project: Gorgon development team is led by industry veteran Eric Heimburg. Eric has over a decade of experience working as a Senior and Lead Engineer, Developer, Designer and Producer on successful games such as Asheron’s Call 1 and 2, Star Trek Online and other successful Massively Multiplayer Online Games.

Launcher window is black and increases memory usage to as much as 8GB

On Windows 10, after starting the game via Steam, the launcher window appears, but no text, buttons, or images appear. The window remains black. According to task manager, the program stops responding and memory usage increases to as much as 8GB (at which point I forced the program to close).

However, if I have WindowsPlayer.exe use the energy saving GPU option (AMD Radeon Vega 8) instead of the high performance option (Radeon RX 560X), the game starts and runs normally. Except it's not using my computer's discrete GPU, causing the game's performance to suffer as a result.

I'm trying to run the game so that it uses my computer's discrete GPU. I'm doing this by indicating to Window's graphics settings that WindowsPlayer.exe should use the high performance option. So far, I've tried updating my drivers, validating the game's files, restarting the computer, adding an exclusion for Project:Gorgon to my antivirus program, running the game as an administrator, and reinstalling the game.

At the time of your posting, the game was coming down for patching. After you download the latest patch, are your results the same as you described pre-patch?

Unfortunately, there was no change. However, I discovered that the issue might have something to do with Radeon's new "Adrenalin" program, which is like Nvidia's control panel but for Radeon. The old version worked differently, and the new version no longer supports switchable graphics. Instead, we have to use Window's graphic settings. Makes sense in principle, I suppose.

But if you make any changes to the graphic settings for some games via the "Adrenalin" software while they're also set to use the high performance option in Window's graphics settings, then their launcher won't start properly. Or at all. So I was finally able to get the game to work with my discrete GPU by turning off all of "Adrenalin's" settings and having Project: Gorgon set to the high performance option in Window's graphics settings.

Considering the problem occurs with a handful of games and not just Project: Gorgon, I guess this is the fault of Radeon's new software.
