So it seems like I need to complete one of Hemmit's quests, "The Mushroom Man's Secret", which unlocks a hang out that teaches me the recipe. Unfortunately I'm a Teleportation Denier and it looks like I need bind to to a mushroom circle. Is there any other way to complete the quest/unlock the recipe?
