Downloaded the demo but can't login with my username and password?
How is it supposed to work? It says run from Steam, but all Steam has is a Download button which downloaded an executable, but running that doesnt work when I try to login?

You have to run it from Steam, as in, run it from the Steam interface. Steam should be running on your PC, so open up the Steam window (in the taskbar tray, usually near the clock). Find the Library tab in the Steam interface, choose the demo, and press Play from there.
