View Full Version : Fae's Death Penalty: Events

Hello,

I want to start off by saying that the majority of us understand that the Fae is a hardcore race that has a few penalties to balance their advantages such as...

True immortality (unable to 'Enter the Light', resurrects at a Lifestone in the Fae Realm, and requires a Faerie Anchor with 50 Fae Energy to resurrect as any other normal race would).
Reduced inventory space.
Reduced poise (highly susceptible to knockback and are knocked further away than bigger and sturdier races).

and...

Ability to craft various Fae-related trinkets and tools.
Faerie Magic (a sub-skill of Mentalism unique to Fae).
Innate flight at the same default speed of a Raven and other flying Beast Forms like it.

However, one of the Fae's penalties—a penalty that has quite a few problems of its own—causes an ongoing issue with the Players of that race participating in boss events—any event that requires the community to gather in one place where death may await them. Whenever Fae die during boss events, they risk being cursed by the event boss and being unable to lift that curse because the boss is not available within Alharth due to being an event boss or is an exceptionally strong boss for the "end-game" that only organized groups or guilds prepare to kill.

Usually, being present when the boss is killed or clicking on the dead boss dispels the curse upon the Player, but this is not possible for Fae Players because they are sent back to the Fae Realm when they die without a Faerie Anchor, or enough Fae Energy to use their Faerie Anchor, which means they will not be present when the boss dies nor will they make it back to the boss to click on it in order to dispel their curse before it despawns.

The only way for Fae Players to dispel their curse after missing their opportunity to help kill a boss or to click on the boss is to send in a bug report or to privately message an available Moderator or Administrator for assistance—something that should be a solution.

While I appreciate that Jackencola assists in clearing curses brought upon us during events, this should not be the mindset towards Fae Players participating in events.

Fae Players should not feel as though they are being punished for wanting to participate in an event hosted by Gamemasters (Administrators) to have fun and be rewarded like everyone else participating alongside them, and Fae Players should not have to pester any of the Staff Members to have their curses cleared when they die during an event hosted by Gamemasters (Administrators). The cost to use our Faerie Anchors is too steep to make it back to any boss as fast as a normal race, and the flight back to a boss is typically too far for Fae Players to make it back to a boss in time.

Please consider making these events more Fae-friendly to allow us to enjoy them as much as any other participating Player of a normal race, and I can think of a few ways for this to be done:

Balance the Faerie Anchor by reducing its cost, by creating a reusable and rechargeable version of it obtainable via a high level Fae-related quest, or by replacing its mechanic in relation to death with a reasonable one.
Create a portal connecting the Fae Realm to the beginning or to a reasonable area of an event's zone that lingers after an event ends to ensure that the Fae Players receive their rewards if there are any after the event ends.
Create a temporary Lifestone—or a Lifeshard—in the event's zone that allows Fae Players to resurrect at its location after binding themselves to it which shatters after the event ends.
Temporarily remove the cost of the Faerie Anchor throughout the event's duration (Fae need to be in possession of an Faerie Anchor to take advantage of this boon).

This is the second time I was given an incurable cursed and missed out on loot dropped by the special bosses of those events because of the Fae's death penalty punishing us for wanting participate and enjoy ourselves like everyone else, and I do not want Fae Players to feel this way.

I want us to be able to take part in this events, to have a fair chance of earning what everyone else is earning, and to have fun doing so hence why I made this complaint and suggestion above. Thank you for reading thus far, and please consider remedying the Faes' plight for the sake of allowing us to be eager about participating within these events.

I will post as someone that has a high-level main and a Fairy alt in their 50's.

Every player of a Fairy character has another character they can play for this event. You'll participate in every way, but you won't get loot, unless you take the risk. Even then, you can bind close to where the even is taking place, and come back when it's done to loot the boss corpse.

A good preparation I guess is to come with enough Fae Energy for a respawn, know someone that can rezz you, bind near the spot, and bring your other alt. And then only risk it if you have a Minor Panacea anyway. It doesn't seem that bad to me.

I want to point out that a portal was up in FR when event was about to start since I did take it, I'm assuming Admin placed it there for Far. Not sure it was up still during or after the event.

During some events there are portals up the entire time from Serbule, the Casino, and Far Realm to the event location. It sounds like they were not advertised enough.

Some other fae-tricks to deal with these situations are hoard animal trophies to grind up to 50-points after a death. This probably shouldnt happen in a world event, because the possibility of burning so many supplies and a couple of F. Anchors just doesnt make sense vs the reward.

Binding close by was mention.

I believe a lot of time went into creating the admin powers for these events, but I don't know if they were made with Fae in mind. But I would like to see admins get a ~100 meter resurrect so the stationary Fae can just stay down and get revived. The problem isnt that you died, its that you can't get back quick enough. Some of these events are tests, and a segment of the population shouldnt pass on it because of Risk vs Reward. Or worry of needing to hassle a volunteer.
The permanent curses in static events should stay because I see it as a boon that people need to recruit friends because you wondered into Baruti (who absolutely kicks butts of the ill-prepared). In admins events, there might be room to tighten things up because I don't think you are the only one with complaints.

A slightly further fae-life ease could come in adding more words of power. Like a word of power that refills metabolism would be great for Fae travel, but in this instance a WOP that refills Fae points would be sweet. It can obviously be used while dead so you can consume a F.Rune if short on points. Those theoretical WOPs are not a thing yet, but ya'll should make it rain suggestions to make it a priority if you agree with me :)

I believe the death penalty for Fae is a bit too strict anyway. When a group wipes in a dungeon and everyone else starts at the entrance, the Fae has to travel to the dungeon again. Harsh death penalty doesn't reward risk, it rewards being risk-averse, and I don't know if that's in the spirit of PG, which advertizes itself as "game about exploration".

Curses are already borderline, they should time out after, say, a week, similar to how diseases should work. That would still keep it harsh, but not overly so, and for Fae, I'd just remove the death penalty, or replace it with the broken-gear mechanic from hardcore, gotta click your tombstone to repair it.

I have used a soul anchor only once since Fae characters came out. Since that one time, I have not been able to get 50 Fae energy before getting killed. Fae energy appears to be random, as it has no relationship to the number of kills made, or the number of Fae magic spells cast.

Pretty sure you get one fae energy for each kill, as long as the mob is of higher level than your total energy. (Killing a level 30 mob will take you from 28 to 29 energy, for example. But if you already have 30 energy, it won't give any.)

Fairy Magic spells have nothing to do with fae energy as far as i know.

Fae Race Skill decomposing items produce Fae Energy and Fairy Dust somewhat randomly (possibly higher level and higher rarity give more of both).

We should not have to abandon our Fae characters—who are just as high-level and fully geared as everyone else participating—just to participate within a special event hosted by the Gamemasters, and not every person has another character that is properly geared since it is possible to invite and protect someone, whose character of a basic race is not fully geared nor fully leveled for the higher-end content such as the place where the quest is found, throughout the entirety of the aforementioned quest that needs to be completed to unlock the Fae race.

100 Fae Energy is not enough to cover how long these events last, and we certainly cannot run off to accumulate another 100 Fae Energy and more Faerie Anchors while the event is taking place hence why I made suggestions to balance or change that mechanic within my post. Also, not everyone is benevolent enough to extend a hand to resurrect someone and these abilities have lengthy cooldowns.

As for the Minor Panacea, do you realize how expensive that item is? Are you expecting Fae to divvy their funds into Minor Panaceas whenever these events are hosted? That is absurd, and there are much better feasible alternatives—some of which I have already provided—that would not make any of the above necessary.

To those suggesting for Fae to bind nearby, the Fae's unique recall costs ten Fae Energy to use and has a thirty minute cooldown.

This Fae Energy takes a modest amount of time to accumulate off the creatures near the very first honeycomb (hive), and we will only be able to use it at least twice throughout the average duration of the event—causing us to miss out on even more boons or loot granted by the special bosses or the Gamemaster(s) if we were to wait for its cooldown to refresh.

Using a Teleportation Circle as a bind could potentially cost us many Amethysts, and not everyone has Teleportation: Alternate Bind/Recall, which also has a valuable catalyst that has a chance of being destroyed per cast, nor the Mushroom Binds that also have lengthier cooldowns and are only available to those who can safely make it to a certain NPC in a cave with high-level hostile NPCs within it.

These special events are supposed to be a community effort that calls for everyone to come together and partake in whatever is being provided for us, and they are not meant to be gated for only those who are the most funded, who are the most powerful, and who are the most experienced overall.

Entirely my own opinion. I would like to rewrite soul anchors in the following way:

1) Require 50 fae energy to craft a soul anchor, with no limit to how many can be crafted. Possibly make this an option as a level reward.
2) No cost in deploying a soul anchor.
3) A soul anchor would remain active as long as you remain in that dungeon, or zone if you dropped a fae anchor in a zone.
4) If you get disconnected, or logout, you have to drop a new soul anchor when you return.

Yes, I agree, they clearly need to do something about the Fae because it makes the game unbalanced. It's much harder to play as her than the other characters. And it's really frustrating when other players can quietly collect their rewards for inventory bosses. I just can't - it pisses me off. I want to get everything at once without any problems. It reminds me of when I recently organized a small gig and used a company, and they too had everything out of the ordinary. I mean, it was bad. I needed a stage, lights and sound. But they were only able to provide sound. I turned to another, I hope this AV hire company in London might be able to help (https://www.ontourevents.co.uk/) me.

There are Fae Anchor, that lets fae spawn at the closest respawn point, now that admins can drop. Jack does drop them when he is running a event (if he doesn´t forget to do so). And the signs at the world bosses are now fae anchor too. so you spawn at the same location as non fae.
