View Full Version : Why do animals get extra storage?

Serbule/Sun Vale Storage.

I played around with an animal for a time and unlocked some sunvale storage. As an animal you can go over to Silvia and access the animal town storage. As soon as you have two legs again can no longer access that storage.

If you max out the storage for Joeh, Marna, Ivyn and charles thompson you can use the bookcase to access their storage. Those npcs however will not talk to you.

This is the very definition of unfair treatment. I would like to see : everyone keep the storage if you go to the effort of unlocking it.

By that token, I'd like NPCs to conduct transactions with animals at all times, especially Joeh.

I don't.. really think this is unfair treatment or particularly advantageous.

Way more limitations to being a animal then humanoid , lamashu won't speak to animals yet dig deep is dug deep within him :)

Mainly because all the storage there for them was added before the storage points that give access to many.

At that point Joeh's storage was just his you could not access others from his nor could you go to a nearby place to access all.

This of course meant animals had much less storage options.

Personally I think that once a certain lvl is reached in any animal form say 50 or so, perhaps then the annoying sunvale 3hr timer and the npcs that wont speak to critters should behave more favorably.

A few things can be got around now by a quick switch to deer or even raven in some cases. It's just an annoyance really.

I never asked to be able to use animal town npcs or services.

Do you think extra storage is not an advantage?

It would be equal if I could access items in animal town from Sylvia or Ashgrab. You can actually get the menu for animal town storage to appear if you were just recently an animal.

I never liked that you had to go human to unlock storage, either. I'd prefer you couldn't, but now the option is there, there'd be riots if it were removed.

Thing is it's just a slippery slope - Increasing endurance, dig deep, all that jazz.

In this instance, though, animals already get the short end of the stick so a human missing out on a bit of storage seems rather mild.

But yeah, on the flip side, having to go human to unlock bonuses for animal forms in the way of storage isn't fantastic, so I guess I see your point.

The why is because when they added access to storage via the catalog in Serb/Kur it was just a mistake that the "will the NPC talk with you" flag did not block it out, and the response was "storage is a real issue for everyone, I'll keep it around for a bit before removing it", paraphrasing from memory obviously. And notice how even though Animals have technically more storage, few people are bending over backwards to live the animal life style.

With Fae coming to Sun Vale I assume there will be more humanoid storage and Warden storage is already present in Kur. I suspect the "storage gap" is going to close real soon.

Honestly, I pleayed as full time animal for over a year, but neevr, not even single time, I used Sun Vale storage. It's simply too out of the way for me to bother with. Beside few triners, Animal town, and Sun Vale in genrall, have little to offer. So I don't see this as big advantage/disadvantage.

Maybe you played before collar was added? Now animals can get to animal town instantly from anywhere in the world. It's probably the most convenient spot of anywhere for an animal player.

No, I ment i stopped my year (more or less) long streak of being a perma animal like two days ago. In fact, the existence of collar was one of main reasons I even bothered to be a full time animal. Like you said, it's very convenient to have free teleport on 1h cd. I used it frequently as a way to get back to Serbule from Fae Realm when death tp was on cd.

But even then I don't really use any features in Animal Town. I maxed out favor with most NPC there when it was added, picked skills I wanted, and now I don't see a reason to actually stay there. There is nothing to do there for me, and even at lower lv, it's not a great place to hang around in.

I mean, why would I set my tp in Animal Town (or anywhere in Sun Vale) when I can set my bond in Casino, and have easy access to 3 zones? Why would I want to store anything in Sun Vale? Crafting board there is not very profitable, there is no nothing worth farming there, now that Winterprize is not needed for end game crafting. It’s not even a good place for leveling.

It had its niche as the best spot for farming fae for Wolf Altar quests, and I guess low level wolves might still want to go there, but for higher level ones Fae Realm is far superior choice.

TL; DR I don't find storage in Sun Vale valuable, because I don't see any reason to store anything there when you can keep your stuff in Rahu/Casino. This might change when more content is added to Sun Vale.

Agree that animal only storage in SV is not an issue, but more of a historical hang-over.

I am maxed in NPC favour in Animal Town and have several level 70 animal forms, but don't use AT storage as there are much easier /convenient locations to use.

I still have a hard time imagining any more convenient storage for a full time animal. Presumably you are teleport-tied to your base right? So collar in, use storage, tp out.... It's effortless additional storage.

What am i missing?

Right now for me, order of convenience of storages (note i'm hardcore so enter the light is not an option):

Rahu/Casino - base (tied here) - no cost, 0/1 zone change
Kur - alt tp - cost to use .4 aquamarine + .2 amethyst, 2 zone changes
Serbule - WoP level 0 - cost to use ~10 crab meat + 10 salt (also get a few extra words of power) + .2 amethyst, 2 zones changes
other Sun Vale/Serbule Hills/Sie Antry/Khyrulek Chest, Dalvos Chest - a lot of running around and such
Lawara/Anagoge

I still use all this storage except Anagoge. If i were a full time animal Sun Vale would jump to number two in the list with a cost of .2 amethyst and 2 zone changes.

Well, for me personally I simply don't need additional storage. I keep most of my items -crafting mats, spare armor sets, just general 'I-might-use-it-someday' stuff like potions/recipes I cna't yet lern etc in Rahu and Cassino.

I keep some stuff in Serbule too, mainly mats for Mushroom farming/Cheesmaking - simply because it has, in my opinion, most convinient acces to cave out of all zones.

I keep alternate bind to Kur, because that gives me easy acces to Wolf altar, and Druid events when they spawn there(not that it happens often). It's also good place to farm cedar wood(and nice skins, but I do it only when I feel like draining all 100+k from this fairy in Serbule). And with addition of Wardens to the game, Kur become even more important(not by much, but still).

So yeah. Sun Vale is convinient trasnition point (less so now, when it takes much longer to get form Animal Town to zone exit), but I have hard time imagining someone needing that much storage. I have a lot of stuff that I haven't touched in months, maybe even years, just because I don't feel like getting ride of it, and I still have plenty of space for my needs.

Any time in a game you have a one way street where one side gets both assets it seems like a clear indication of inequality. How do animals get the short end of the stick? They get both the human storage and the animal town storage.

Animals cannot talk to the haters and humans are shunned by the animal town folk. That part is pretty equal. If you need ink you can go to the casino for example instead of talking to Joeh.

Generally speaking I would hope animals would have equal storage in SV to what is available in serb. Raul and Norbert for example offer 56 slots each. Is there more?

Providing an equal but different experience is one of the things that can make playing a non main stream class interesting. It seems like a big oversight to me that animals get an extra 112 storage slots. You could have an extra 448 storage slots if you ran 4 animal characters. For people who use and actually play all their characters that is a big deal.

My expectation is that a human gets say 400 slots in serb (whatever the number is when you add them all up not counting Hulon) and an animal gets 400 slots in sunvale. Whichever form has been active for 3 hours turns off the other storage. But that is not what happens right now and to me that seems a little one sided.

I rarely run through sunvale but I would go there a lot more often if I could access the 56 slots from Raul/Norbert via silvia/ashbrab to hold work orders.

The point is not : hey please nerf this! The goal I see here is to make the rules fair and balanced regardles of the number of legs you are using.
