Hello everybody.
This feedback of the game is mostly intended for the developers, but heii, welcome to the party if you want to discuss anything.
I posted my first feedback on RPG Codex: https://rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/project-gorgon.106812/page-2
Just bought it and spent 4 hours in it, I like it pretty much so far. I've been looking for a decent mmo for a century, and I think I'll call it a day.
There are a lot of tidbit incline:
- you can take notes on map (because otherwise, maps are empty of direction/names etc.)
- you can take notes on a notepad for quests (because otherwise, quests don't update with the hints and info you find, you've got to brain it out yourself).
- everything is cool to read and it makes quests progression pretty cool > usually in mmo I can't even bother reading the horseshit within text-boxes and Quest give NPC.
- you can remap all keys + YOU CAN USE MACRO, finally a dev team that understand what's a mouse and keyboard are for. Thus you can make any combination of ALT+ CTRL+ SHIT+ for neat advantage. That alone deserve buying the game.
- xp progression is made through skill usage
- high level magic - seems - to require materials to be cast
- some parts of the writing are pretty hilarious but it was mentioned before in the thread.
- many quests require thinking, orientation, memory etc.
I didn't try to play with other players yet, we will see later.
Don't get your expectation too high, I know it might sound like pure rpg incline, but we are still discussing mmo. Now that it is on steam, there is nothing stopping you from buying, testing under 2 hours, and refunding if you don't like.
Be advised that the very first minutes are probably the worst, as the controls and gameplay will remind you every trash of the genre, only progressing further will you unveil the qualities of the game. Notably the starting location is pretty cool imo, since you're exiled to an island and need to find a way out by solving puzzles on the way.
My ingame name is Destucs
After more time spent on the game (now 15 hours in to be precise), I don't know how long I'll keep playing it.
While I described some nice touchs earlier, they do not constitute the meat of the game, but only tidbits gravitating around it.
Tidbits that I appreciate and would appreciate to see more in MMO or else (macros, notepad...).
But the thing is this: you've got skill shortcuts and spend your time spamming those skills depending on Cooldowns. There is nothing thrilling around that, and the skills themselves are bland.
I would rate ''unarmed'' on of the most pleasant skillset to play, as you can unlock combos, disarm foes and kick them a few meters away. Bard also has some nice touchs.
One major flaw, imo, is that there is no pvp in Project Gorgon, there is a thing where you drink a potion and pvp vs another player who drank that potion too, but that's it.
Spent most of my time playing alone as there are not many new players, still did some events in group, but the kind of events where pixels are fucking with each other on a pace you can't fallow or comprehend.
I'll keep looking another century.
So, as you can see the premise was pretty good, but soon enough, the conclusion turned out to be grim.
The reason I am writing this here, is:
1. So that the devs can have this kind of feedback
2. Because I wish Project Gorgon would be fun to me.
My biggest issues with the game:
- The skills and class are bland.
There is no clear C&C class, there is no fun Hybrid class which can do things that other class can't, there is no counter abilities to anything.
Every class have Damage Dealing, Heal, and either - bad - stun or mesmerize.
Most players then seek the best Damage Dealing formulas: Lycnathropy/Unarmed, Warden/Something else, Fire/BM.
(my)Conclusion: everything is bland.
- Now let's play a Dungeon and see what happens:
Players run, kill, run, kill, run, kill, run, kill.
Again, bland.
- No PVP: depression inbound (me).
- Cooldowns: ew
Another thing that troubles me is that, while I had some fun playing alone, there was a point where I got tired of it and tried to party with people, but it's not easy. Because people are all over the place (since there are so few new players).
The community is otherwise extremely friendly and helpful (Niqess, Inlight, Noobiforever, are a few nicknames that pop-up).
This is a 33 hours in feedback. I do not have knowledge of everything, my character is 30 fire, 25 psychology.
The only part where I might not be 100% correct is about the bland dungeons, because I only did Red Wing Casino.
My profile as a gamer:
- fav. games:
Fallout 1, Deus Ex, Gothic 1&2, Vtm: Bloodlines.
- fav. mmo:
Everquest 1, Daoc.
Aspects that I liked in those MMO that are missing from P Gorgon are the cool aspects of class and skills.
I loved to play Crowd Control class, I could turn creatures to sleep either in single target or mass target. There was no cooldowns but a casting time. And the reason you would pick a spell/skill over another spell/skill was due to tactical choices, not ''oh, it's on cooldown''.
p.s: I wish my feedback would be more constructive, so if you have any more detailed questions, I would be happy to answer.
