Being able to sort purchaseable gear on a vendor by level or a specific skill would be awesome.

Just a thought...

I agree, not being able to search for equipment really hurts the seller in trying to sell it. Its easy to search for any other item really but I guess equipment and maybe stuff like augments could be harder (haven't checked on the latter). I don't want so much search capability that it is like an auction house but just being able to give people business would be nice. It really helps newer players with equipment and experienced players with searching for certain specific items can sometimes prove useful even if you already have a set (like lets say you wanted a specific Snail armor or item from Gazluk or something). Even if I could just search for items by slot I'd probably visit merchants that had some armor or accessories for sale just to see the items.

The reality of the situation though, is that even with a search function, you aren't going to really find what you want.

Vendor space is at a premium. I'm not sure what it maxes out at, but maybe 50 slots? I'm up to 38 slots after several months of constant vendoring. At 7k a day it isn't cost effective to list anything except the very best of armor out of GK. Some people toss up their Golds that they don't need. So you may see someone with archery and sword, or fire and staff. But unless you are looking for those sets, and at level 70, you are out of luck. To make that 7k a day rent you need to be selling things that come in stacks, or items with a high value that you can get easily. And even then, how many people want to spend an hour a day in game just to make rent? Let alone several hours. You see a lot of cotton, gems, dirt, crafting supplies. You don't see much in the way of gear, even if you go through all player vendors.

Where this might be more helpful is on the NPC vendors that do have a huge amount of gear they sell.

Oh, I've found some lovely pieces that someone sold as vendor trash. One person's extraneous piece is another person's one-stat-from-usable.

Also, I've gone long periods without having reasonable pants or tunic drop, so just getting something vaguely level appropriate while leveling is... Important.

Yes, Mikhaila. NPC vendors is what I was specifically speaking of.

Agreed. The old saying about one man's trash is another's treasure is very true with vendor goods and one of my favorite things in this game. It's like a bizarre form of player buying/selling that allows people to dump items rapidly and savvy people to hunt for specific items or equipment every day. Searching for gear is MUCH harder than searching for say spider eggs on a merchant. Just because we have to read the stats or at least the skills on it to even know if we'd use it - but I too have found some pretty strong stuff on vendors. I made most of my items through crafting, mainly tailoring and toolcrafting (snail armors) but I have still found many accessories, weapons, off hands, etc. on vendors that I don't know how likely I would be to find them elsewhere. It's such a good feeling when you snag one.

Wouldnt the function of NPC commission based sales for armor be the best way to keep those non stacking items for sale?
Think there will be a way to search for all possible matches to something like the new golems for player vendors with the NPCs in commission sale items? If there is it might be the best way to keep the commission function of npc vendors sales relevant.
