View Full Version : Fishing can be hugely frustrating

Fishing can be very frustrating. You have to be very close to click on 'Catch Fish' such that a fish swimming in a circle is moving around the whole screen. If you click in the wrong spot you no longer have the fish targeted. At the same time you are often trying to stay at the same vertical height if the fish is not near the bottom. I also suspect lag is playing some part in how difficult it is to click on 'Catch Fish' at the correct time.
The result is that with some more mobile examples you are constantly missing the fish and because of losing breath having to get in and out of the water. Probably worth considering also that it's something a lot of people trying the game are going to experience very early in their play time, so it disproportionately affects perceptions.
Suggestion : make it either so that all fish are sometimes static or allow 'Catch Fish' to be clicked from two to three times further away than it presently needs to be successful.

I tried it today and maybe I missed it. But is there anyway to swim up. Seemed that all I could do was swim down to the bottom and couldnt swim up for air had to swim across or go back where i started to come up.

If you are having a difficult time catching fish with the mouse, if you select the fish and then press the 'U' key on your keyboard it works the sames as pressing the 'Catch Fish' button.

Fishing comes off as a very unfinished and tacked on skill currently. Probably better off waiting for a real fishing system to be put in with poles and such.

Thank you. Much better.

You may want to bind a key to 'Select Next Non-Combattant' as well, in order to make it easier to select the fish in the first place.
In conjunciton with the 'Use Selected' ("U") key, it can make tasks like looting corpses, speaking to npcs, harvesting wood, etc a bit quicker and more intuitive.

Right clicking on something moves you to it and activates the default activity, so useful for fishing and foraging, etc...
Not so much for combat, but left clicking on something then selecting the first attack you wish to use will (usually) cause you to run up and hit the enemy

R and F work for up and down in the water much the same way they do for flight.

This combined with the other suggestion(s) to bind keys for select next & use selected make fishing a whole lot easier.

This is makes a big difference.
I have TAB select next non-combat thingy
shift-tab select previous
the ` key (above tab) as the use key. (and also mouse button 3, by which I mean the mouse wheel press)
This makes a gigantic difference. I steer with the mouse, and hold R to swim on top of the water.
I've moved select next enemy to e and select previous to q on the keyboard, and moved strafe down to z and c instead of whatever they used to be, x to auto-run. And now. I never ever, die.
