I'll put it in laundry list format, to curtail my mental exhaustion.

1. Poetry system that ties in with any potential music system. LOTRO had an addon that implimented the syncing of lyrics and words and emotes with certain abc tracks. It was a player that came up with the addon, not the dev team, but the fact that the devs allowed for addons was what led to the innovation. The addon was known as poetical, if you're interested in looking it up.

2. Books add lore xp when read, depending on how many words/characters they consist of.

3. High skill in other areas in concert with high skill in calligraphy allows one to make skill books. Perhaps make it so that they can dictate to a scribe who can then record their words, so not everyone has to learn calligraphy. That also would put calligraphy in more demand as a service.

4. Once the amount of armors and clothing expands, maybe have a cosmetic system with cosmetic layers/dyes and so forth. Or at the very least a hide helmet option.

Being able to make skill books would have to have a very high cost, or it would be exploited quickly. Especially for hard skills.

Same with books for Lore. Right now, lore is a tougher skill as there is a finite set of things to discover. As they add more items, lore will increase. If it was just number of words, characters, people would cut/paste the Gettysburg Address and sell it for lore exp.

Citan has talked about a cosmetic system.

Exploitable systems have to be avoided, but you could always suggest ways to make them safe from exploit. Think it boils down to how much fun will it add to the game , verses how much effort to implement and how much work is needed to make it non-exploitable.

Yeah, you guys are right about it being highly exploitable. I should've considered that in my suggestion. Hmm, maybe a month long cool down or some other limit? Even then, it opens a can of worms it seems that might be exploited with the introduction of a bug or whatever.

5. Calligraphy consumables. Make it so you can store the calligraphy combinations for swordplay or whatever as a scroll, to be used on demand. Maybe only calligraphy people can use them, or people with such a skill in sword.

That. As if we all who use a sword have room to carry those mat items we need to create calligraphy buffs out in the wild. Let us create and make scrolls back in town, that stack. Thank you . Oh, and if necessary, make said scrolls untradable and undroppable. But could be sold to a vendor.

One thought that occurs about books:

Hold a contest for players to write lore that will be used in game. Example: A book by one of the Blacksmiths detailing our his secret process for making bilge hoops. Or Laura Neth's recipe book. Someone - Specifically not the developers since they have enough to do - gets the enjoyable task of reading through the submissions for books on various skills, dungeons, critter hunting guides, etc. They pick one from each catagory. These books will then drop in-game similar to Notus records, but instead of a random skill, these give Exp in the skill associated with the book. The player who actually wrote the book is listed as a ghost writer or scribe. Could even do levels to how well preserved the copy is with shoddy copies giving 250, and pristine as much as 1500. These could follow the white/green etc rarity scheme. Obviously some things like Gender Studies might not be used, and any other skill the devs don't want to have another route to exp. Just an off the cuff thought.
