question about damage

If for instance an item or an effect gives me +10 psychic damage, and I use a sword (Sword Slash 1 = 10 damage) the damage I will do will be the basic mods damage 10 (no mods) or 10 slash damage + 10 psychic damage = 20 damage total.

Think it means that if you use a psychic attack, it'll do +10 damage. So, for your specific example, you'd do just 10 slash damage.

There are some gear or combos that add fire or psychic damage to a sword ability. If you were using one of those, then it would take advantage of that bonus.
